Unsolved Rapes Investigated After Suspect Arrest

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) ― Police arrested a man in Pueblo believed to be a rapist known as "Ether Man" because the suspect knocked out his victims with a chemical-soaked cloth. Robert Bruce has been connected to at least a dozen rape cases.

Police in Pueblo and Fort Collins are investigating whether Bruce is responsible for other unsolved sex attacks. Bruce has been living in Pueblo where he was arrested last month in a peeping tom case. He also was arrested for allegedly trying to blow up a police officer's home.

Investigators said DNA links Bruce to a dozen sexual assaults over nearly 20 years near the University of New Mexico campus.

Bruce's ex-wife said the children she had with him are also victims. She did not want to be identified. "He was a good dad, so they are very devastated. They didn't know this part of his life. He led, I believe, a double life."

Fort Collins police confirm they are checking to see if the "Ether Man" rapist could be responsible for two attacks near the CSU campus last year, in which the attacker used a cloth soaked with a chemical.
