Colorado Springs authorities say a waiter whisked away a woman's drink after reporting that a man slipped something into it.
Police tested the drink and said it contained a tranquilizer used to relax muscles and relieve anxiety.
Waiter Colt Haugen says the woman was away from her table when the incident occurred at a Ruby Tuesday Restaurant last month. He says when she came back, he took away her drink, gave her a new one and called police.
"The woman got up and gave me a big hug and was crying on my shoulder and said thank you so much it was so nice of you to do that," Haugen said.
"If it wasn't for him, I don't know what would have happened," said the alleged victim who didn't want to be identified. "It was like, you know, God was looking after me."
Robert Lawrence Psaty, 56, was arrested last week on suspicion of inducing someone to consume a controlled substance. Police say he met the woman through the dating service singlesnet.com.
Psaty is a former city councilman in Florence and is currently a counselor at the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo. He is now on paid administrative leave.
Psaty is free on bail. He didn't return phone calls.
