Jury Convicts Man Of Kidnapping, Sexual Assault
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) ―
A Colorado Springs man is being ordered held without bond until he's sentenced for kidnapping and sexual assault.
A jury of six men and six women found Oliver Newell, 30, guilty Tuesday of 11 charges for sexually assaulting a boy and three military men last year.
The kidnapping charge carries a maximum of nearly 50 years behind bars. The sexual assault charges could bring a life sentence.
An Air Force Academy cadet and a Fort Carson soldier testified they passed out and awoke to find Newell was performing oral sex on them.
A boy who was 14 said Newell raped him at gunpoint. Another cadet said Newell tried to sodomize him.
Prosecutors said it's too early to discuss what sentence they'll recommend.
Sentencing is set for Feb. 29.
