Prosecutors File 4th Charge Against Chess Champ
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) ―
Prosecutors have filed a fourth count of sexual assault on a child against chess teacher and author Robert Snyder, who is accused of inappropriately touching some of his students.
The Larimer County district attorney filed the additional charge Thursday. Snyder, 51, author of the "Chess for Juniors" book series, also faces two counts alleging a pattern of abuse.
Police and prosecutors have said at least two children were involved in the alleged incidents at Snyder's Fort Collins home in August 2002 and July of this year.
Snyder's attorney, I. Edward Huttner, has denied his client did anything wrong.
Snyder is free on a $250,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 6
Snyder is a former Western U.S. Chess Champion. According to his Web site, his students have won first place 36 times in championship sections at the National Scholastic chess competition.
