Gunnison Area Related News

07/21/08, officers received a report of possible criminal mischief at a tower on Tenderfoot Mountain. Damages were minor.

07/21/08, officers assisted the Gunnison Police Department with a call concerning a fight near the 800-block of West Tomichi, Gunnison.

07/21/08, officers located an apparent abandoned camp on the south side of Hartman Rocks. The owner of the camp was located as a resident of Gunnison and the property was returned.

07/21/08, officers received a parking complaint near a residence in the Rio Vista area. The situation was taken care of without complications.

07/21/08, officers and EMS responded to a medical call near Powderhorn.

07/21/08, officers responded to the Gunnison Valley Hospital regarding a reported traffic mishap. Investigations revealed that a rock from a passing truck on Highway 135 broke a side window of a passing motorist. The motorist was unable to give a description of the truck.

07/22/08, officers responded to the Arrowhead Subdivision in relationship to a family disturbance call. Investigations revealed that a mother and adult daughter were experiencing major disagreements and the situation had potential for violence. After a lengthy session anxieties subsided.

07/22/08, officers were called to a location near west Highway 50 regarding a controlled burn of an old structure. The Fire Marshal was fearful that asbestos partials were being released into the air. Case turned over to the Fire Marshal.

07/22/08, officers received a call concerning possible dog neglect near the Iola boat ramp. The animal was left unattended in the back of a pickup.

07/22/08, at approximately 10:25 PM, officers delivered an emergency message to the Lakeview area of Taylor Park.

07/23/08, at approximately 8:44 PM, officers and EMS were dispatched to an address within Almont regarding a 46-year-old Kansas male suffering chest pain and having difficulty breathing. When officers arrived, victim Gordon Ray Loewen of Dodge City had stopped breathing. In spite of efforts by officers and medical staff, the victim passed away.

07/23/08, at approximately 11:20 PM, officers received a complaint concerning water impeding on to property. This was a civil matter between neighbors.

07/24/08, at approximately 4:35 PM, officers assisted the Colorado State Patrol with a rollover traffic accident near the mile marker 8 of County Road 76, Pitkin/Ohio City road.

07/24/08, at approximately 10:15 PM, officers were dispatched to an address near Highway 135, approximately 2 .5 miles north, for a report of a verbal altercation between mother and son.

07/24/08, at approximately 10:55 PM, officers and EMS were dispatched to a medical call near County Road 10. An 85-year-old female was suffering pain and was subsequently transported to the Gunnison Valley Hospital.

07/25/08, officers responded to a smoke report near a ranch north of Gunnison. Investigations revealed that the fire was an unregistered control burn; a warning was extended.

07/25/08, officers and EMS assisted the Gunnison Police Department with an ambulance call at a business near the 400-block South 14th Street.

07/25/08, officers received a report concerning a possible burglary or criminal mischief at a residence near County Road 18 (Gun Range Road). Investigations revealed that the damage was not criminal as first thought and attributed damages to being weather related.

07/26/08, officers arrested a 23-year-old Gunnison female on a $750 Gunnison County failure-to-appear warrant. The arrest went without incident.

07/26/08, officers assisted the Gunnison Police Department with searching for a theft suspect.

07/26/08, officers were dispatched to an address near Fairway Lane concerning a civil disagreement at a residence.

07/26/08, at approximately 6:45 PM, officers were dispatched to an address 2.8 miles north of Gunnison regarding a man with a knife acting strangely. The individual was taken into protective custody and turned over to Mental Health representatives.

07/26/08, officers and EMS responded to an ATV accident near the Illinois Creek Access Road, Taylor park area. Investigations revealed that three young females, ages 21, 18 and 17, were riding the 4-wheeler when it rolled over. All three ladies were transported to the Gunnison Valley Hospital with injuries undetermined.

07/26/08, officers investigated a structure fire of a shop near County Road 76, Ohio City/Pitkin road. At this point it appears that the fire was caused accidentally; the shop and tools within are a total loss.

07/27/08, at approximately 11:20 PM, officers arrested a 25-year-old Rifle, Colorado male for DUI, following too closely, Driving while driving privileges suspended/revoked and prohibitive use of weapons (possession of firearms while intoxicated). The arrest came about through investigations of a traffic complaint from a citizen approximately one-mile west of Gunnison on Highway 50.

07/27/08, at approximately 12:10 AM, Gunnison Police officers, Sheriff's officers, EMS and Fire responded to a car fire within the east parking lot of the Gunnison County Courthouse. A Colorado State Patrol car was partially engulfed in flames. Case is still under investigation.

07/27/08, officers responded to an address near Sierra Vista Way concerning an ATV accident involving a juvenile. The male juvenile was transported to the Gunnison Valley with what is believed to be minor injuries.

07/27/08, officers received a report of relatively minor criminal mischief at the Dos Rios Golf Course. Case is still under investigation.

07/27/08, officers received a report of possible animal abuse at the Blue Mesa Recreation Ranch. Investigations provided that although obvious abuse was not clear, frustration between animal and owner was. With the blessings of the owner interested individuals took permanent possession of the animal in question and thus elevated the anxieties between man and beast.

07/27/08, officers received a report concerning a person wearing a life jacket floating down the Gunnison River. Individual checked out ok.

Somerset/Marble area news

07/09/08, officers responded to Marble for a possible trespass call. The issues were civil in nature.

07/12/08, at approximately 2:00 AM, officers were dispatched to an address in Somerset regarding fireworks being fired off. A warning was extended.

07/14/08, officers were dispatched to an ATV accident with injuries near U.S.F.S. Road 268.
