Police arrested the father of an 11-month-old boy who died after being electrocuted when investigators say he grabbed a clock with exposed wires.
Greeley police say they arrested Ernesto Talavera-Nunez Wednesday night after officers found inconsistencies in his statements about the incident. The 23-year-old is being held on suspicion of felony child abuse resulting in the death of his son Tuesday.
"Everybody's a loser in this case; I mean we're sorry for everyone in this case," Chief Jerry Garner with Greeley police said. "Certainly there are accidents that are nobody's fault and children get killed that way sometimes. But what we're saying here is this didn't have to happen."
Talavera-Nunez was being held at the Weld County jail on $15,000 bond. Police say Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials are reviewing whether he is in the country legally.
