Douglas County Sheriff's deputies were investigating a homicide along Interstate 25 after a body was found next to an SUV at the Happy Canyon Rd. exit late Sunday night.
Detectives spent at least 13 hours processing the scene after the body was discovered. The coroner was still working to identify the dead man late Monday night.
A witness had called authorities at about 11 p.m. Sunday after seeing the body next to a white SUV.
"Being it was found in such close proximity to it, they do believe the car is related somehow," said Cocha Heyden, a Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy. "But whether it belongs to the victim or someone else, that's yet to be determined."
Deputies arrived and found a man dead. Investigators said there are obvious signs of trauma to the body, although it wasn't clear how he died.
Detectives were still working to find out if the SUV belonged to the victim.
The exit from southbound I-25 to Happy Canyon Rd. was closed Monday while the investigation continued.
Authorities asked anyone who might have seen anything to call the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
