Human Remains Found Along Canal In Commerce City
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) ―
Officers in Commerce City were looking for more human remains along the bank of the Burlington Canal Monday after a fisherman found a leg bone Sunday, police said.
Investigators found more human remains on the northwest bank of the canal Sunday and continued the search Monday in the 5800 block of York Street. They believe the remains are all from the same person.
"We don't know the sex, we don't know the exact age," said Det. Mike Saunders with Commerce City police. "We can say that it's not a child or infant. It's looking like maybe a teenager all the way up to 60 years old."
Parts of the canal's water supply at Franklin Street was shut off and drained to assist in the search. The water was expected to be restored by Monday afternoon.
Farmers from the Franklin Street Bridge to about 120th Avenue and in parts of Thornton were affected by the water shut off.
Police said there was no identity on the remains or known cause of the person's death.
