Chop Shop Suspect Arrested In Jefferson County

Police in Jefferson County arrested a suspect in a chop shop operation last Friday.
The Jefferson County Regional Auto Theft Task Force (JC-RATT) arrested Michael Smith, 24, of Wheat Ridge.
Smith was taken into custody in the near his Grandmother's home in the area of 61st and Owens, in Arvada.
"Smith was seen attempting to flee the area as members of JC-RATT and Arvada Police Department approached the home," Lisa Stigall with JC-RATT said in a prepared statement. "A concerned citizen assisted authorities in Smiths apprehension when he saw Smith running through neighborhood yards."
Smith is being held at the Jefferson County Jail on multiple charges, including theft by receiving and first degree aggravated motor vehicle theft, among several other charges.
Smith is will appear in court on Nov. 19.
