Police: Man Kidnaps Family, Tracked By Text Msgs

LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4) ― A Loveland man was arrested Tuesday night on charges of kidnapping his wife and son and taking them to Wyoming. Police were able to track the family and make the arrest thanks to text messages from the suspect's wife.

Michael Bent allegedly took his family to Wyoming for two days.

Neighbors thought something was wrong when the family left.

"I was about to do their yard-work and my mom said she had to leave unexpectedly," said Danny Bebo. "She seemed nervous and I guess she mouthed to my mom 'help me' but she couldn't make out the words."

Bent's wife sent text messages to friends as the family was headed back to Loveland on Tuesday.

"We contacted Verizon and asked them to do emergency ping as we call it to locate the cell phone," said Sgt. Jan Burreson of Loveland police. "We got first contact north of Cheyenne and one of the text messages was that she believed she was headed back to Loveland."

Officers waited at the family's home and arrested Bent when they returned.
