Man Kills Himself With Springfield Officer's Gun
SPRINGFIELD, Colo. (AP) ―
Authorities say a man used an officer's gun to shoot and kill himself after he was placed in custody for allegedly attempting to strangle a woman to death in Springfield.
The Baca County sheriff's office says Damien Greenlee grabbed a gun while he was in a Springfield police officer's vehicle. The sheriff's office says the officer was inside the home where the woman was attacked when Greenlee shot himself.
Officials declined to say where the gun was in the vehicle.
Greenlee shared a home with the woman he was suspected of trying to strangle, but their relationship wasn't immediately known. The woman was hospitalized, but details on her condition were not available.
A probe is under way by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Springfield, a town of about 1,400, is 200 miles southeast of Denver.
