Authorities say a Springfield man shot and killed himself after attempting to strangle a woman to death. The woman survived.

Baca County sheriff's spokeswoman Donna Caldwell says Damien Greenlee was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Saturday and was taken to Southeast Colorado Hospital in Springfield, where he was pronounced dead.

Caldwell says investigators believe Greenlee attacked Andrea Hetzel. Her condition wasn't immediately available.

Authorities say Greenlee and Hetzel shared a home but their relationship wasn't immediately known. Investigators have not release any motive for the attack.

Springfield, a town of about 1,400, is 200 miles southeast of Denver.
