Man Sentenced For DUI, Victim Lost Hand
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) ―
A 24-year-old man is being ordered to serve probation and pay restitution for causing a crash that cost another driver her hand and part of her arm.
A Grand Junction judge on Wednesday sentenced Shaun Jessup to 5 years of probation and ordered him to pay more than $300,000 in restitution.
He had pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and causing an accident resulting in serious bodily injury in a deal with prosecutors.
Grand Junction police said Jessup was driving drunk when his vehicle struck a sport utility vehicle in August, causing the SUV to roll.
Tami Duran, 49, was seriously injured.
She removed her prosthetic limb in court, saying she has to live with it every day.
Jessup offered an apology.
