Search Continues For Robbery Suspects In DougCo

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4/AP) ― Authorities in Douglas County are looking for two suspects who fired at sheriff's deputies. Investigators released surveillance video Sunday of the same suspects believed to be involved in a convenience store robbery on June 11.

Deputies tried to stop the men around 3 a.m. Saturday after getting a report of a burglary in the Silver Heights subdivision of Castle Rock. The sheriff's office said the suspects fled in their vehicle and shot at deputies, hitting their cars, then continuing to drive west on Wolfensberger.

The vehicle stopped south of Highway 105 and Wolfensberger and the suspects fled the vehicle, running into a wooded area. A perimeter was set up and the SWAT team was called in.

The search took law enforcement all over Douglas County as they searched on the ground and by air. The search led them to Interstate 25 and Founders Parkway in Castle Rock where SWAT team members quickly surrounded a house and made a forceful entry.

"I heard the first explosion and then looked up that way and saw a SWAT-type team go through the front door and then a second explosion with a flash," a nearby shopper said.

A reverse 911 call was sent out to 2,400 phones to notify residents that the suspects were still at large and armed.

"This is a concern for the citizens in this area because we do believe the suspects are still currently armed and dangerous," Lt. Alan Stanton with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said Saturday.

The two suspects were said to be white males in their early 20s.

One deputy suffered injuries to his arm and was treated and then released from a hospital.

The earlier armed robbery occurred in Castle Rock at the Circle K convenience store on June 11. Investigators believe the suspects involved in that incident are the same suspects from Saturday morning's incident.

In that robbery, the suspects wore military style black clothing. One carried an assault rifle.

"If an individual is willing to shoot at a police officer that's in a marked vehicle and in uniform, I can't tell you what they would do for a citizen," Stanton said Sunday. "That's concerning to us and they need to be apprehended."

Anyone with information is asked to call the tip hotline at (303) 660-7579.
