Pistol Stolen From Home Of Northglenn Officer

NORTHGLENN, Colo. (CBS4/AP) ― Authorities say someone stole a pistol and a vehicle from the home of a police officer in Northglenn.

The Glock 26 pistol and 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser were taken Friday night. It wasn't immediately clear whether the pistol was the officer's personal property.

Police say the thief broke a window to get into the house. The officer, whose name wasn't released, was off-duty but wasn't home at the time.

"The reason why we're concerned is because anytime a firearm is stolen in a burglary, you know it's already in the wrong hands," Sgt Jeff Herronen with Northglenn police said. "Those are not the people we want to have possession of firearms."

The vehicle belonged to a friend of the officer.

Also taken were a full magazine for the pistol, a laptop computer and a television. Police put the total value of the stolen items at about $21,000.

Authorities say no police uniforms were taken.
