COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) ― A former Colorado Springs man is being ordered to spend four years in prison for his role in the killing of a university student.

Benjamin Gunvalsen, 27, had pleaded guilty to being an accessory to murder in the death of Patricia Ann Elliott.

The 19-year-old student at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs was beaten to death in 2001.

Elliott's mother asked for leniency for Gunvalsen -- saying he was the only one of the three suspects to show remorse and tell the truth.

His testimony helped secure a first-degree murder conviction last month against 29-year-old Christopher William Allen.

Gunvalsen is expected to testify against 31-Ryan James Krueger when he stands trial in April.

Krueger and Allen are former Fort Carson soldiers.
