Mountain Towns Offer DNC Getaway Deals
VAIL, Colo. (CBS4) ―
Many mountain communities from Winter Park to Eagle are hoping to see some of the crowds from the Democratic National Convention in late August. At the very least, they hope to attract Front Range residents who want to escape the madness that week may bring to Colorado.
A few of the towns said it was too expensive to be a sponsor of the DNC and get promotional material in a goody bag being handed out to delegates. But they are marketing in other ways.
Vail shot video and sent it to all of the television networks, hoping to entice people to visit.
Vail is also holding its 8150 campaign at the same time as the convention. There are special lodging, dining and recreation packages priced at $81.50, in honor of the town's altitude.
Many towns are also coordinating the timing of special events with the convention.
"Ads will be in the local papers," said Beth Slifer of Vail Marketing.
