RTD Considers Charging At Some Park-N-Ride Lots

DENVER (CBS4) ― The Regional Transportation District is considering charging for parking at some of its "park-n-Ride" lots. Officials will review the proposal Tuesday as just one way RTD is trying to offset the cost of fuel.

RTD is also talking about possibly raising fares because of higher gas prices.

More commuters are getting to work by bus and light rail and some light rail stations have seen a dramatic increase in ridership, making the park-n-Ride lots fill up to capacity faster.

Pay meters may go up at six of the lots. They are as follows: the Stapleton Airport, Airport Boulevard and 40th Avenue, Montbello, Wagon Road, Thornton and 104th Avenue and Washington Street at the Target store.

Those who live the metro area and use RTD to get to work won't have to pay, but non-residents of the eight-county metro area will have to pay $4 a day. Overnight parking will cost $2 a night.

RTD will check license plates to make sure users are paying the correct amount.
