Colorado Home Foreclosures Jump 23 Percent In 1Q

DENVER (AP) ― The number of home foreclosures in Colorado jumped 23 percent in the first quarter of 2008 compared to the same period last year.

The state Division of Housing on Thursday reported more than 11,600 new foreclosure filings in the first quarter, compared with more than 9,440 in the same period last year.

Adams County had the highest foreclosure rate in the state, with one filing for every 86 households. Weld County was second with one for every 102 households.

Housing officials say total foreclosures this year will likely be 15 percent higher than last year's total of nearly 40,000.
