Competition Fierce For Vestas Jobs

BRIGHTON, Colo. (CBS4) ―
Job recruiters for an expanding renewable energy company know how fierce the competition is right now for available work.
"We get probably over 400 to 500 new candidates a week," said Tammy Fisher, District Manager for SOS Staffing of Greeley.
SOS is the exclusive job recruiter for Vestas, the Denmark-based wind energy company.
Vestas has already opened one new factory in Windsor and has plans to build three more factories in Brighton and Pueblo. The company needs to fill 1,500 job openings; it's already received 18,000 applications. That means there are at least 12 people competing for every open position.
"Ideally, we'd love to find somebody who's been with a fabulous company and hasn't been job jumping," said Dominik Neves, an SOS Recruiter.
The three factories will produce blades, drive systems for wind turbines and towers.
Neves says the company needs to hire production workers as well as engineers and managers. Starting salaries range from $34,000 to $55,000 plus benefits.
But for those who want immediate employment, Vestas may not be ideal. Vestas may not respond for a year or longer and applicants are told to be patient.
"It's not the typical company where you go in and have an interview and you call a week later and say hey where am I standing with my interview," explained Valorie Baird, an SOS Account Manager.
Baird says Vestas hires smart and that's why the company has such a low employee turnover rate, just 2 percent.
All the work with Vestas has been good for SOS. The job recruiting company is adding staff and moving into a new, bigger office at its Fort Lupton location.
