The recent drop in gas prices is welcome relief to non-profit programs like Meals on Wheels.
The Town of Littleton Cares Meals Program relies on volunteers who drive their own cars and use their own gas.
The program has kept rolling, even when gas prices were close to $4 a gallon. But it is still tough on the volunteers, many who are senior citizens themselves and on fixed incomes.
"We have some volunteers who have been driving for 30 years, so I don't think a hurricane would stop some of those drivers from delivering those meals," said Debbie Urtz of TLC Meals on Wheels.
Gas cards were donated to the TLC Meals on Wheels and will be distributed to volunteers during an appreciation day soon.
Another Meals On Wheels program told CBS4 that they higher gas prices affected their volunteer recruitment.
The program organizers said there are people on waiting lists for meals. They could be served if there were more drivers.
