Sun Microsystems To Cut 128 Jobs In Broomfield

Job cuts at Sun Microsystems Inc. will once again hit hard in Broomfield, where the computer technology company will eliminate 128 jobs in January as part of national layoffs.
Sun notified state labor officials of the downsizing Tuesday.
Sun said Oct. 20 that it would trim its national workforce by 10 percent -- about 3,000 workers -- in response to losing customers while Oracle Corp.'s $7.4 billion purchase of Sun is held up by European regulators over antitrust concerns in the business database market.
U.S. regulators approved the Oracle-Sun deal months ago.
Oracle CEO Larry Ellison has been quoted as saying that European delay is resulting in Sun losing $100 million a month as competitors seize on customer uncertainty and recruit away business.
Sun, at its high point just after its 2005 purchase of Louisville-based Storage Technology Corp., once employed more than 4,700 employees at neighboring campuses on U.S. 36.
