Air Force Awards Lockheed Martin $1.4B Contract

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) ― Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $1.4 billion contract to build the next generation GPS space program for the U.S. Air Force.

The program, known as GPS III, will improve navigation and timing for aircraft worldwide.

It's unknown how many new jobs will come to Colorado when the space systemed is assembled in its local facility.

Lockheed Martin is the world's largest military contractor. Its Space Systems Company is based in Waterton Canyon in Jefferson County.
