ARNIE STAPLETON - AP Sports Writer
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) ― Kyle Orton is testing his injured right index finger at practice for the first time since getting hurt nine days ago.

The Denver Broncos and their starting quarterback are eager to see if he can complete passes despite a dislocated knuckle that poked through the skin in the third preseason game.

During the 20 minutes that the media was allowed to watch the workout Tuesday, Orton, wearing a glove on his right hand, threw accurate short passes in warm-up drills. He handed off with his right hand without any apparent problems.

Orton declined to comment before practice, but he's scheduled to speak with the media on Wednesday, a sign the Broncos expect him to start over Chris Simms in their opener Sunday at Cincinnati.

Simms tested a high ankle sprain on Sunday and said he felt good but added that he expects Orton to start the team's opener at Cincinnati.

Other questions surround the Broncos' offense: Will receiver Brandon Marshall behave now that he's been reinstated from his suspension for insubordination? And what will top draft pick Knowshon Moreno be able to contribute after a knee injury limited him to a handful of plays in the preseason?
