LITTLETON, Colo (CBS4) ― A Denver Broncos 30-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens doesn't hurt so badly when it's the team's first loss and it comes two months into the season. But the fact is, the Broncos were outplayed on every phase of the game, according to Champ Bailey on Comcast Broncos Live! on Monday.

"We were playing a good football team, first of all, and those guys deserve credit," Bailey said. "They played harder than we did. They outplayed us."

Bailey said it's a good way for the Broncos to go back to the drawing board and try to figure out ways to win the rest of the season.

Coming into Sunday's game the Ravens had lost three games in a row, but Bailey stopped short of saying Baltimore played harder because they were desperate for a win.

"We wouldn't say we were desperate and we're not going to say they were desperate. They knew that they were in need of a win; they needed to get back on track," Bailey said. "They were coming off a bye just like we were. They were more prepared than we were."

The game actually gave the Broncos an opportunity to hear head coach Josh McDaniels talk to the team after losing a game. That's something that hasn't happen yet this season and Bailey said he was obviously upset.

"We know we have to practice better this week. We have to prepare better. We're playing the defending champs (Pittsburgh Steelers), so it's going to be a tough match for us and it's on Monday Night Football. That's going to bring a little more excitement as well."

Bailey had some compliments for running back Correll Buckhalter, who was the guest on Comcast Broncos Live! He said Buckhalter is much faster than he thought after playing against him while Buckhalter was in Philadelphia and Bailey was in Washington.

"I was always faster than everybody so I didn't know how fast he really was until I saw him this year," Bailey said.

Buckhalter led the Broncos in receptions Sunday with six for 30 yards. He said a good NFL running back needs to be the whole package.

"To be an NFL running back you have catch and block. That's what a lot of college running backs don't understand. You have to be able to do those two things as well as run the ball," Buckhalter said. "When you've got a back that can do that, it helps your offense."

On Saturday during an NCAA football game, the Florida Gators' Brandon Spikes was caught on video attempting to give an "eye gouge" to the Georgia Bulldogs' Washaun Easley during a gang tackle. In the wake of that controversial action, Buckhalter said a lot of dirty things happen in a gang tackle.

"Some strange things can go on under a pile. Guys will try to bite and scratch and do some devilish stuff," Buckhalter said.

Bailey and Buckhalter will have their work cut out for them when the Pittsburgh Steelers come to Invesco Field at Mile High next Monday night. The Steelers have a very faithful following and their fans turn out in droves at away games.

The Broncos nominated Bailey for this year's Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, which honors a player's volunteer and charity work, as well as his excellence on the field.

"It's just as much an honor to me as going to the Pro Bowl," Bailey said.
