DENVER (AP/CBS4) ― Another player on the Denver Broncos roster is in hot water with the law.

Tight end Daniel Graham was arrested Friday on a charge of harassing his former girlfriend, who said the player hit a bedpost after an argument about the sale of their home.

Graham, 29, was arrested on suspicion of criminal mischief and harassment and released on a personal recognizance bond, the Arapahoe County sheriff's department said. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 18.

Deputies responded to the woman's house Thursday on a disturbance call. That's when Graham's former girlfriend, also the mother of his child, told deputies he damaged a bedpost with his hand after a previous argument Sunday. She also said she told him numerous times to leave, but he refused.

Capt. Brice Moomaw said he didn't know the circumstances behind the disturbance call Thursday.

Deputies from the Arapahoe County sheriff's office went to Graham's residence at around 1:55 a.m. on Friday, and took him into custody a few minutes later.

Broncos spokesman Jim Saccomano said the team was aware of the arrest but had no comment. One of Graham's agents, Jack Mills, also declined to comment.

Graham, a former University of Colorado standout, was drafted in the first round by the New England Patriots in 2002 and won two Super Bowl rings while he was there.

He was considered the top tight end in the free agency market last year and the Broncos signed him to a 5 year, $30 million contract.

Graham was solid as a blocker and had 24 catches for 246 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Broncos this season. He hurt his ankle on Dec. 13 in the Broncos loss to Houston.

Graham is at least the fifth Broncos player to face charges this year:

  • Punter Todd Sauerbrun, a former West Virginia player who was cut by the team last month, faces an assault charge for an incident outside a restaurant in early December. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 15.
  • Receiver Brandon Marshall recently pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence. Marshall was arrested in downtown Denver early on the morning of Oct. 22, hours after the Broncos beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-28 in Denver. A jury trial has been scheduled for March 24.
  • Receiver David Kircus, waived by the team during the summer, was charged with second-degree assault after a fight last spring. He has an upcoming court appearance later this month.
  • Third-string quarterback Darrell Hackney was arrested in early December on suspicion of driving under the influence. He also faces charges including failure to stop at a stop sign and driving without proof of insurance.
