DENVER (CBS4) ―
The Broncos announced Thursday that they have traded guard Montrae Holland to the Cowboys for a fifth round draft pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Holland, last year's starter at right guard, reported to training camp overweight and spent the first two weeks of practices working off the pounds while his teammates practiced.
The move indicates that the team is very happy with Chris Kuper's performance at the right guard position. He's now the expected starter, CBS4 Broncos Insider Gary Miller reports.
Kuper is in his third year with the Broncos.
The move also allows the team to keep a roster spot open, probably for one of their other offensive lineman. Kory Lichtensteiger, a 4th round draft pick from this year's draft, Dylan Gandy, formerly of the Indianapolis Colts, and Denverite Tyler Polumbus all have a better shot at making the team now, accoring to Miller.
The Broncos will announce their final cuts soon. After Friday night's preseason game against the Cardinals in Arizona the team will have to get its roster down to the NFL mandated 53 players.
Holland spent his first four NFL seasons with the New Orleans Saints. He joined the Broncos in 2007.
