Broncos wide receiver Eddie Royal became only the second Bronco in team history to pull off a double whammy Monday night against the Chargers.
In Royal's 235 return yards against the Chargers he broke two returns -- both a kickoff and a punt -- for touchdowns. The last Bronco to accomplish the same feat was Al Fraiser back in 1961.
Royal started things off by taking a 93-yard kickoff return to the house in the first quarter and then broke a 71-yard punt return for another TD in the second quarter.
Royal said on Comcast Broncos Live! Tuesday that the accomplishment came as a relief.
"We work so hard on it. There's a lot that goes into it, and it's a great feeling to finally break one," Royal told CBS4's Vic Lombardi.
Royal's two returns helped the Broncos edge out the Chargers 34-23.
Teammate Vonnie Holliday joined Royal on Broncos Comcast Live! and said that even after working with some great special teams units in his lengthy NFL career, Royal's runs and the great blocks truly impressed him.
"What I witnessed last night was special. Something I've never been a part of and never seen," Holliday said.
Holliday said Royal had expressed frustration in earlier weeks with his play, but on Tuesday's show he looked at Royal and said, "Look at you now!"
It wasn't a bad way to head into a bye week. The Broncos are playing well on both sides of the ball. Denver has outscored their opposition 76-10 in the second half so far this season.
Defensively, the Broncos are ranked second in the NFL just behind the New York Giants. Holliday said it's what goes on in the locker room that makes Denver defensive leaders.
"We go in at half time and our adjustments and our ability to communicate what's going on, on the field as players as coaches and ability to get everybody on the same plane coming out in the second half has been unbelievable," Holliday said.
Sailing into the bye week of the season 6-0, Royal said it's a good time for a bye but not for a break.
"It's coming at a good time. We've done a good job of preparing and this week off isn't going to be any different. We're going to study film over the break and stay prepared for Baltimore. We know we have a good team coming up."
