Denver Broncos team officials will be flying to the East Coast this weekend to meet with New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
The Broncos received permission to interview McDaniel from the Patriots, CBS4 Broncos Insider Gary Miller reports.
Spagnuolo and McDaniels will likely be the first candidates the Broncos will interview about the team's head coaching position that opened up after owner Pat Bowlen fired Mike Shanahan on Tuesday.
The meeting with Spagnuolo will take place on Saturday in New York and the meeting with McDaniels will be on Sunday in Boston.
On Wednesday afternoon the team will interview Raheem Morris, the newly named defensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in Denver. They will also interview Broncos Offensive coordinator Rick Dennison on Wednesday.
With Morris, an African-American, the Broncos would be meeting the
Rooney requirement that mandates NFL teams with a head coaching openings interview at least one black candidate.
Miller reports the Broncos will also interview Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett on Tuesday. Garrett is the highest paid offensive coordinator in the league, making $3 million a year, and was thought to be the Cowboys head coach in waiting. Hit stock may have taken a hit after Dallas had offensive problems this season.
Broncos officials are also believed to have reached out to representatives of Oklahoma University coach Bob Stoops, although there's been no direct contact at this point, Miller reports.
The team officials who will most likely be making the trip east will be owner Pat Bowlen, chief operating officer Joe Ellis and possibly another staff member.
