Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway joins CBS4 Sports Insiders Vic Lombardi and Gary Miller on their ESPN Radio 1600 show every week to talk Broncos. His Monday Morning Quarterback segment can be heard at 8 a.m.
DENVER (CBS4) - On Monday the undefeated Denver Broncos stood at 5-0 and the Tennessee Titans were 0-6. You'd think there would be a massive difference in terms of talent there, but John Elway thinks that's not really the case.
It's the chemistry that's leading to two very different seasons for the two NFL teams, according to the legendary Broncos quarterback.
"The Broncos aren't that much more talented, but it just goes to show you how important chemistry is on a football team," Elway said.
Elway said he remembers being blown out by teams during his career, but he can't recall a team he was on ever looking like it had just quit as the Titans did on Sunday in their 59-0 loss to the Patriots.
There certainly doesn't seem to be much "quit" with the Broncos and new quarterback Kyle Orton, who brought the team back from a 17-7 deficit at the half in last Sunday's win over those same Patriots.
"They're rallying around (Orton). As they are with coach Josh McDaniels and Brian Dawkins on the defense," Elway said.
Elway described the momentum for the Broncos as "electric." He said he thinks the Broncos are the third best team in the league at the moment, even better than the 6-0 Vikings. He'd place the Saints and then the Colts in the top two spots.
What would it take for him, and everyone else, to say the Broncos are the best?
"Everybody's just waiting to see them (win) on the road against good football teams," Elway said.
Elway said he thinks the Broncos are capable of doing it, but of course no one even expected them to be nearly as good as they have been.
"The most surprising thing about this whole thing is the turnaround on defense. To go from one of the worst defenses in the league to the top (rated) defense in the league, plus to see how they're playing in the second half -- It's been such a drastic change."
The Broncos hope to stay undefeated Monday night when they take on division rivals San Diego in a Monday night showdown on national TV.
