A trio of faces quite accustomed to spending February in Honolulu will represent the Broncos at the Pro Bowl in two months.
Cornerback Champ Bailey, safety John Lynch and linebacker Al Wilson were announced as the Broncos' three representatives to the AFC All-Star team on Tuesday. Collectively, they represented three-quarters of the club's Pro Bowl compliment last season and have now combined for 20
Pro Bowl bids over the years.
Bailey and Lynch return to the game for a third consecutive year as
Broncos. Bailey's selection extends his streak of consecutive appearances in the annual all-star game to seven dating back to the 2000 season with the Washington Redskins, his second in the league.
Bailey and Wilson were also granted the additional honor of being Pro Bowl starters.
For the All-Pro
cornerback, the selection caps a year in which his run defense was at least as impressive as his eight interceptions, which matched the career standard he established last season. Bailey has a career-best 85 total tackles -- 72 solo and 13 assists, with 26 passes defensed, which puts him on pace to set a career high in that statistic.
Wilson, meanwhile, was chosen for the fifth time in the last six seasons -- including one selection as the AFC's "need player" following the 2003 campaign. This season has been one of the eight-year veteran's finest; he leads the team in total tackles with 106 -- 84 solo and 22 assists. He's also contributed a sack, six passes defensed and a forced fumble while continuing his team-captain duties.
Lynch has already posted his highest single-season tackle total since joining the Broncos, logging 81 stops -- 54 solo and 27 assists. He's broken up four passes and notched a forced fumble and a fumble recovery so far this season.
The 14-year veteran's value, however, isn't measurable in numbers -- especially this year, as injuries have forced him to hold the secondary together. He is the only one of the Broncos' original top three safeties still on the active roster, as Sam Brandon and Nick Ferguson incurred season-ending injuries a month ago.
The Pro Bowl will be played on Saturday, Feb. 10 with CBS handling the broadcast.
