DENVER (CBS4) ―
The Denver Broncos have held a quarterback camp all week, and the players say it's like being back in school. They're in the classroom every morning, and then they go out on the field for a pop quiz on the field.
They have a lot to learn.
"It's totally different," said tight end Tony Scheffler. "We do a lot of the same sort of things, but the terminology is a lot different. It's definitely something that you have to put the old West Coast Offense out of your mind. The concepts and terminology you have to put it behind you and move forward."
Head coach Josh McDaniels is pushing the team forward, and he's not waiting for any stragglers. He's putting the pressure on the players to keep up.
"They don't have a choice," McDaniels said. "The pace is pretty frantic out there. We're blitzing, red area, two-minute, all kinds of kicking situations. That's what a game's like. So our practices are going to be no different. They're going to be fast paced, and our players are going to be held accountable, because if we don't do those things, we're not going to win."
The Broncos are installing a brand new offense and a brand new defense, but McDaniels said that a far more basic skill will determine just how far the team goes this year.
"We either led the league or were second in the league in most turnovers last year," McDaniels said. "I don't know that there's anything that is going to help our football team more than not turning it over [on offense] and creating turnovers on defense."
