Former Bronco Billy Jenkins is being charged with vehicular manslaughter.
Former Denver Broncos starting strong safety Billy Jenkins is the suspect in a fatal hit and run accident early Thursday morning in Aurora, CBS4's Brian Maass reports.
Jenkins was a starting defensive back for the Broncos in 2000 and 2001 after he was acquired in a trade with the St. Louis Rams, where he played on the Rams' Super Bowl winning team in 1999.
Early Thursday morning, authorities say Jenkins, 34, was driving a rental car when he hit Tracy Gill, 51, near the intersection of Parker Road and East Quincy Avenue. Gill was riding a scooter and died a short time later.
Police say Jenkins ran away into Cherry Creek State Park after the accident but returned to the scene and was arrested.
Jenkins is being charged with vehicular homicide, hit and run, driving under the influence and careless driving. Jenkins was released from jail after posting $50,000 bond.
A message left at Jenkins Arapahoe County home has not been returned.
In addition to starting for the Broncos and Rams, Jenkins also played for the Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers. He left professional football after playing for the Bills in 2002.
