Gary Miller

For Gary Miller, who was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and says, "I've always wanted to be close to and involved in sports," the opportunity to live and work in Denver has meant a lot. It's meant being part of "a great station, in a great city-where you can do anything."

It's also meant the chance to cover such standout events as the Rockies first game at Coors Field in 1993. Of experiences like this, he says, "they have great intensity and they fulfill a dream of mine."

The dream began for Gary on the East Coast, where he attended New York's Long Island University, graduating in 1976 with a BA in journalism-speech and an interest in broadcasting. For six years following graduation, Gary worked as sports director and anchor at KGET-TV in Bakersfield, Calif., before moving on to serve as sports anchor at KSBY-TV in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

He also worked as sports anchor at KNDU-TV in Washington State, before the offer to join CBS4 in Denver arrived. In June 1991, Gary joined CBS4, where he can now be found covering sports, and became their first local reporter assigned to cover the NFL full time beginning in the fall of 1998.

Gary's career has been recognized with a number of awards, including "Best Sportscast" and "Best Play-by-Play" from the California Press. He's also won a Golden Mike for "Best Sportscast."

The opportunity to attend the sports events that he does-such as covering the Broncos' Super Bowl victory, or the Avalanche win of the Stanley Cup, and "getting paid to be where everyone wants to be," makes Gary sometimes want to pinch himself-but the "long, long" hours he puts in gives him a reality check.

Gary hopes that he comes across to his audience as friendly, interested and caring -- just as he sees himself. "I always try to be myself," he adds.

Despite all the big sports moments to which he has been an eyewitness, Gary says the most memorable events in his life were marrying his wife and having children with her. His primary goal in life is "to be happy and fulfilled and to help my family be the same."

He enjoys spending his free time jogging, going to movies, and reading newspapers on the Internet.
